"Annabel Dixon (b. 1981) is an artist living and working in Boorloo/Perth, Western Australia. Her practice spans printmaking, painting, sculpture, and installation, transforming a plethora of found materials—house paint, paper scraps, comics, second hand books, plywood scraps, packaging, and printed matter—into unexpected artworks that challenge conventional notions of value and the art-craft dichotomy.
Dixon's process-based approach to art making is both detail oriented and labour intensive, exploring the intersection of colour, pattern, and language through meticulous material manipulation. Her work consistently references art history and socioeconomic themes, creating dialogue between discarded materials and contemporary artistic discourse.
Since graduating with a BA (Fine Art) (Hons) from Curtin University in 2002, Dixon has maintained a prolific studio practice with exhibitions at significant institutions including The Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre, Linden New Art, and Mori Gallery. Her works are held in The University of Western Australia Art Collection, The State Art Collection of Western Australia, and numerous private collections.
Through her transformative practice, Dixon elevates overlooked materials into complex visual compositions, questioning hierarchies of artistic production while celebrating the potential found within the discarded and overlooked.
