In a diverse conceptual practice, Phillips investigates how the economic and political is entwined with the social and environmental to create ambivalent ethical and visual states. She spends time ‘listening’ and responding to landscapes, with projects that incorporate walking, ecology and resensitisation to the physical environment, as well as making wider connections to extractivism and its linkages to colonialism. Phillips has had her short films shown on Labocine and as part of MINE: What is Ours in the Wake of Extraction, and the Living Maps conference. Recent exhibitions include, the solos Collected Habitats (Ellenbrook Arts) and Rock Love (Kalgoorlie-Boulder) and Mélange (part of IOTA24), and Bunbury Biennale, WAMA Art Prize (Ararat Gallery TAMA), Bird (Climarte) and The new geologic epoch (ecoartspace) in 2023. Phillips was 2024-5 Tate Adams Memorial Fellow at Baldessin Studio/State Library of Victoria and is working on artist’s books about ‘lithic traces’ in the archive.
